The Artist



Darby Anderson is an artist who captures the fleeting effects of nature and explores man's connection to the landscape. He paints both in his studio and on location (en plein air). His paintings, full of dappled light and color, show the influence of both Impressionism and Realism. Darby works primarily in the Midwest and Great Plains states. His work has been exhibited in Denver, Colorado Springs, Estes Park, Kansas City, Lincoln and Omaha.

Recent News:

April, 2007: Darby will be showing three paintings in the 8th Annual Western Iowa Art Show. The show will be in the Grand Lodge Arts Center in Modale, Iowa from April 15th through the 29th.

November, 2006: Darby's painting "Cold Storage" has been accepted into the prestigious American Plains Artists Annual juried artshow (Update: the painting has sold to a California collector). The show will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska this year at the Great Plains Art Museum. Juror for the show is the museum's curator, Reese Summers. The show runs from October 6th thru November 19th, 2006.

July, 2006: Darby has two paintings in the Member's Show at Gallery 92 West in Fremont, Nebraska.

June, 2006: One-man show in June at the National Agricultural Center Hall of Fame and Museum in Bonner Springs, Kansas (a suburb of Kansas City). Darby's painting "Shadow Mountain Log Barn" was chosen for the Museum's permanent collection.

Background Summary:

Darby Anderson is an independent artist living in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born and raised in Cushing, Iowa and attended colleges in Nebraska and Iowa where he studied to be a painter. At Westmar College, he studied under Midwest landscape artist Gary Bowling who was then head of the Art Department. In 1993, Darby was able to travel to London and Paris to see and study the work of the old masters and the Impressionists. After many years of working as a designer and advertising director in Denver, Darby moved to Omaha in 2004.

Darby has studied under many well known artists through classes and workshops including Gary Bowling, Milt Heinrich, Ramon Kelly and Michael Ome Untiedt.

Darby currently lives in Omaha with his wife Barbara and their sons Sean and Ryan.
